The Centro Autonómico de Formación e Innovación (CAFI), coordinating institution of STTAIRS, presented the project’s work at UNESCO Digital Learning Week 2026, held at UNESCO Headquarters in Paris from 8 to 11 September 2026 under the title Education in the age of AI: Facts | Frictions | Frontiers.
Our contribution, From evidence to practice: A European instructional model for teacher training in AI, was presented on 9 September during the parallel session Building and expanding teachers’ agency: Insights into the journey from professional development to classroom practice.
The presentation focused on one of the central challenges addressed by STTAIRS: how to translate evidence about teachers’ needs into meaningful professional development for AI.
We shared the work carried out by the six partner organisations, from the initial needs assessment across the five participating countries to the design of the training pathways and the development of the digital environment that will support them.
The needs analysis combined questionnaires, focus groups and expert consultation and involved several hundred teachers from different educational contexts. Despite national differences, common priorities emerged around the ethical and responsible use of AI, its pedagogical integration and accessible professional development for teachers with different levels of digital competence.
This evidence is now informing the next stages of the project. STTAIRS is developing structured training pathways and a Moodle-based, multilingual and accessible learning environment incorporating AI-supported functionalities. The project will also establish communities of practice connecting teachers from different education systems around shared challenges and experiences.
STTAIRS is currently moving from analysis towards development and implementation. The instructional design and digital platform are progressing, to be followed by piloting, evaluation and refinement.
Presenting this work at UNESCO Digital Learning Week offered an important opportunity to share the consortium’s progress and contrast our approach with perspectives and initiatives from education systems around the world.
From evidence to practice: this is the space in which STTAIRS aims to contribute to responsible, inclusive and pedagogically meaningful AI integration in education.
