The STTAIRS project will be presented at MoodleMoot Croatia 2026, which will take place on 11 and 12 June 2026 at the University Computing Centre SRCE in Zagreb.
On 11 June, from 12:00 to 12:20, the CAFI team, as project coordinator, and the SRCE team, as leader of Work Package 2, will present the communication “AI and Digital Well-being Plugins for Moodle – results of the project STTAIRS”. The session is included in the official programme of the 16th MoodleMoot Croatia.
The presentation will share the first results of STTAIRS in the development of a Moodle-based learning environment designed to support AI-enhanced teacher training, multilingual access, accessibility and digital well-being. The project LMS has already been established as the central space for learning activities, resources, technical testing and future pilot training.
A key focus of the session will be the work carried out within Work Package 2, which includes the technical selection, evaluation and testing of AI-related Moodle plugins and digital well-being tools. This process involved identifying relevant tools and analysing their functionality, pricing models, technical requirements, data protection aspects and suitability for integration into the STTAIRS Moodle environment.
The selected solutions were installed and tested by partner institutions using common evaluation criteria, including usability, functionality, pedagogical value, technical limitations and sustainability. Based on this testing and the comparison of partner results, the project selected a custom-developed Moodle chatbot as the core AI component, supported by complementary functionality for generating summaries, quizzes and learning materials directly from course content.
The chatbot was chosen because it can be integrated directly into Moodle, configured at course level, use course content and selected Moodle data to provide contextual support, and connect to different AI providers through standard APIs. This approach allows the project to explore AI-enhanced support while maintaining a strong focus on pedagogical relevance, technical feasibility and responsible implementation.
For digital well-being, feedback and engagement, the project has selected a set of Moodle-based tools aimed at promoting learner participation, reflection, healthy digital habits and more engaging learning experiences. Their implementation follows a phased approach that includes technical validation, LLM model evaluation, controlled AI usage budgeting, pilot testing and preparation for production deployment.
The participation of STTAIRS in MoodleMoot Croatia represents an important opportunity to share the project’s first outcomes with the Moodle community and to present the initial structure of the technical ecosystem that will support the next phases of the project.
We invite all members of the Sttairs project and other educational and Moodle communities, as well as everyone interested in artificial intelligence, digital well-being, accessibility and teacher training, to connect online and take part in the session. It will be a valuable opportunity to learn first-hand about the first results of the STTAIRS project and to follow the development of its Moodle-based AI and digital well-being ecosystem.
